Scripting Companion
The goal is never to stop scripting. The goal is to understand it.
When an autistic child repeats lines from a movie, a song, or a conversation from last week, it can be easy to hear "random repetition." We believe — and research into echolalia and gestalt language increasingly shows — that scripting is often meaningful communication: a way of expressing feelings, processing experiences, self-regulating, and connecting.
Scripting Companion is an app in development that helps parents, carers, teachers and therapists listen differently — to notice patterns, understand the communication behind a child's scripts, and respond with compassion and confidence.
What Scripting Companion will help you do
Understand what scripting and echolalia are, and what they may be expressing. Notice patterns — which scripts appear when your child is excited, anxious, overwhelmed or seeking connection. Respond in ways that build connection rather than shut communication down. Share insights with the other adults in your child's life, from grandparents to teachers.
Our commitments
Neurodiversity-affirming, always. Scripting Companion will never aim to stop, correct or train away scripting. It exists to help adults understand — because every child deserves to be understood.
Built with autistic voices. "Nothing about us without us" guides this project. As Scripting Companion develops, autistic advisors and allied health professionals will be embedded in its design, testing and governance.
Privacy by design. Your child's information belongs to your family — full stop. Conversations will be encrypted, data handling will aim to exceed minimum compliance requirements, and we will always be transparent about how information is stored and used.
Honest about what it is. Scripting Companion is a support and education tool. It does not diagnose, and it will never replace speech pathologists, psychologists or other professionals — it's designed to work alongside them.
Who it's for
Parents and families. Grandparents and carers. Educators and teacher aides. Therapists, support workers and behaviour support practitioners. Anyone who loves or supports an autistic child and wants to understand them more deeply.
